Robert Michael Brooks, Sr., known lovingly as Bob to his friends and family, was called to his eternal rest on July 1, 2025. Born on June 8, 1931, in Baltimore, Maryland, Bob's journey through life was one marked by unwavering faith, selfless dedication, and profound love for his family.
Bob's early years were touched by hardship, having lost both parents by the age of seven. This profound loss shaped him into a man who deeply valued the bonds of family. It was this sense of kinship that he carried into his own family life, marrying the love of his life, Patricia, and becoming the cherished father of Joan Marie Shaver, Robert Jr., Thomas, and James. His legacy continued to blossom with the joy brought by his grandsons, Matthew and Timothy Shaver.
After serving with distinction in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, Bob returned home to lay down roots in Ellicott City, MD, where he lived out his days surrounded by the community he helped foster. His service to his country was a source of great pride and taught him the virtues of honor and commitment-qualities he applied throughout his life.
Bob's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence. It guided him in every endeavor and was reflected in his daily interactions.
Throughout his life, Bob's selflessness and thoughtfulness knew no bounds. Whether it was through his attentive care for his family's well-being or his involvement in church and community activities, Bob was the embodiment of what it means to serve others. Even in his final battle with cancer, his concern was not for himself, but for the well-being of those he would leave behind.
Bob's interests, though varied, always circled back to his family. He was the rock upon which they built their lives, the steady hand that guided them through turbulent times, and the gentle voice that celebrated their achievements. His was a life rich in moments that mattered, moments spent nurturing the health and happiness of his loved ones.
In remembering Bob, we recall the words of St. Francis of Assisi: "For it is in giving that we receive." Throughout his 94 years, Bob gave generously of himself to his family, his friends, and his country. His legacy is one of love, service, and the quiet strength that comes from an unwavering faith.
Bob's life will be celebrated in a service that honors his devout Catholic beliefs and the values he held dear. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the knowledge that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
Robert Michael Brooks, Sr.'s memory will be cherished as an example of a life well-lived, a testament to the power of faith, and the enduring strength of familial love. May he rest in peace in the loving embrace of his Creator.
