Robert Brown, age 79, passed away on July 21, 2025, in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Friday, July 25, 2025, at Resthaven Cemetery in Quitaque with Chris Tucker officiating. Open visitation will be held from 4-7:00PM, Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Quitaque. He graduated from Quitaque High School in 1964. He had a great love for music, song writing and singing. But his greatest love and interest was art and history. He later pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at West Texas State College (WTAM) majoring in History. As the years would pass Butch learned how to play the guitar from brother Bennie. And then he was off to Nashville, Tennessee. He mowed lawns and did odd jobs to afford to live in Nashville. Nashville was a tough town for an up-and-coming singer songwriter. So, in 1985 he gave up songwriting for the time, and began writing short stories, some which were published. Butch eventually landed in Plainview, Texas and opened a retail store front with used furniture, jewelry, and art. His mother was his biggest fan and customer! He utilized his education at that time while attending estate sales, auctions and yard sales and his personal collection of art began to grow. He had a good eye for a great painting! One of his best finds, is in the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. Through the years, as he started to settle down, he moved back to Quitaque and eventually took care of his closet friend Jill. They traveled miles of country roads, as well as stopping in different towns and shops along the way. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Austella and S. C. (Blue) Brown, older sister and brother, Pat Rhoderick and Carl Brown, and nephews Richard Rhoderick and Roger Brown. He is survived by his sister Melanie Camp of Jacksboro, Texas and Bennie Brown of Amarillo, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as multiple great and great great nieces and nephews. Butch as we fondly call him, was born in Motley County.
