Robert Charles Geneser, 91, passed away on July 22, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will take place from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, Iowa on Monday, July 28, 2025. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. immediately following the visitation at the church. Bob's service will be livestreamed. A link can be found on his page at https://www.ilesfuneralhomes.com. A committal with military honors will follow services at Beaver Catholic Cemetery.
Bob was born October 4, 1933, on the family homestead in rural Granger to Jack and Ina Geneser. He attended Assumption Catholic School from elementary through high school and remained deeply connected to his faith and community throughout his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany-a time he would later commemorate by attending Army reunions across the country with his beloved wife, Kathy.
On October 12, 1957, Bob married Kathleen Hurley at Assumption Church in Granger. He worked as a mechanic for Dukehart-Hughes in Des Moines before the family moved to the farm in 1970. He farmed the land until 1998, when he passed the reins to his son, Mark.
Bob was a low-key, kind-hearted man with a strong work ethic and a genuine, compassionate nature. He was known for his quiet strength, good humor, and love of a good cup of coffee-any time of day or night with a sweet treat to go with it. His ever-present pipe was a familiar comfort to those who knew him. Whether helping at the church, spending time with family, or attending reunions with his old 964th Army buddies, Bob was a steady, grounding presence in the lives of many.
Bob is survived by his children: Pat (Betty) Geneser, Mary Kay (Mike) Gault, Julie (Lou) Pierantoni, Mark Geneser, and Jim Geneser; grandchildren: Sam Geneser, Claire Geneser, Jessica (Nick) Larson, Chris (Monica) Gault, Daniel Gault, Katherine Pierantoni, Madelena Pierantoni, Alex (Gretchen) Geneser, Amber Geneser, Breanne (Seth) McMullen, Emily (Tyler) Allison, Jack Geneser, and Danielle Geneser; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Linda) Geneser; and many other loving family members.
He was preceded by his parents; his loving wife of 43 years, Kathleen; sisters, Ruth Geneser and Ina Jean (Joe) Kordick; and his grandchildren, Melissa Gault and Nick Yeagle.
Bob's family would like to express their gratitude to Brenda Erps, Shannon Menard, Mary Pat Tiernan, and Audrey Chiri for the exceptional care they gave to Bob. "Due to your kindness and attention to Dad, you became extended family."
Memorials in Bob's name may be directed to Assumption Catholic Church: 1906 Sycamore St.- Granger, IA. 50109 or Boys Town: PO Box 8000- Boys Town, NE, 68010.
Arrangements by Iles Brandt Chapel- Bob's service will be livestreamed. A link can be found on his page at https://www.ilesfuneralhomes.com/
