Bob was born on December 1, 1934 the son of Anton and Lillian (Theisen) Heisterkamp. He was the youngest of three children. He attended St. Bernard's Catholic Schools in Breda, Iowa and graduated in 1952. After high school, he started working with his parents, and brother, Eldon, at the Breda Hardware. When his parents retired, Bob opened Heisterkamp Plumbing and Heating, where he served the community for many years.
On June 28, 1955, Bob married Dorothy Ann Drey at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa. They made their home in Breda, where they raised their four children, Delynn, Diane, Gary and Jon. They lived in Breda until their move to Garden View Assisted Living in Carroll in 2021.
Bob was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and sang in the Adult Choir, where everyone raved about his beautiful tenor voice. He was also a drummer and vocalist with the "Main Street Combo" band where you could hear him singing his signature solo, a Dean Martin classic "I Don't Know Why I Love You Like I Do".
He was a councilman for the City of Breda for many years and a volunteer member of the Breda Fire Department. He served as President of the Breda Telephone Corporation and was a founding member of the Breda Betterment Committee.
Bob was an avid sportsman and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate. He loved his Breda Bobcats, his Kuemper Knights, and his Iowa Hawkeyes. Bob was a "people person". It was nothing to find him carrying on a conversation with a total stranger. A few of his favorite things were loading his grandchildren up in his truck and driving around town teaching them the history of Breda or cruising on his riding lawnmower.
Bob is survived by his "kiddos":
His children: Delynn (Bryan) Boes, Diane (Dennis) Reiling, Gary (Karen) Heisterkamp and Jon (Laura) Heisterkamp; his grandchildren: Adam (Tara) Reiling, Ashley (Brendan) Perrotta, Andrew Reiling, Dr. Nathan (Rachel) Boes, Courtney (Bobby) Huber, Michael Heisterkamp, Alex (D'Laine) Heisterkamp, Blair, Bennett, and Parker Heisterkamp; his great-grandchildren: Noah, Arabella, and Bowen Boes, Jack, AnnaKate, and Lucy Huber, Miller and Callum Heisterkamp; sisters-in-law: Lucy Brooks, Joan Drey, Margaret Drey, Elaine Drey; his brother-in-law: Tom (Dorie) Drey; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, of 69 years; his parents Anton and Lillian Heisterkamp; his parents in-law, John and Helena Drey; his brother, Eldon Heisterkamp; his sister Marlys Schulte; his brothers-in-law, Herb Schulte, Joe, Pete, Ken and John Drey; and sisters-in-law, Marian, Chris, and Kay Drey.
