Robert Hintz Obituary

Published by Legacy from Jul. 17 to Jul. 30, 2025.
Robert "Bob" Hintz – aka Big City Bob (BCB), Grandpa Bob (GB), Bobby!

Age 72 – Bob Hintz quietly punched his ticket to Heaven on July 16, 2025, following an eventful 7-week hospital and hospice stint-one that included surprises, toughness, and deeply meaningful moments with family and friends. He fought an aggressive Merkel Cell Cancer that metastasized to the brain, but ultimately, God called him home.

True to form, Bob kept things close to the vest. A private guy with a strong compass and zero interest in drama. He had a big personality with a genuine heart and a strong handshake – and the kind of guy who could keep people laughing. This served him well during his 43-year run at Miller Electric Manufacturing, where he built a successful career and special friendships until the very end.

He spent part of those years traveling for work, but if Andy had a football game or Shaya a softball tournament, you could bet Bob would be there.

He was a true parent. His kids joke that graduating from "BHU" (Bob Hintz University) meant you were officially ready for real life. He was the kind of Dad who set the bar high, expected a lot, but was proud when you met it.

Bob was many things: generous, creative, kind, no-nonsense, and hilarious when he felt like it. A man of faith, strongly rooted in our Lord Jesus Christ, Bob's foundation was unshakable. He knew where he was going, and this provided him (and his family) with great comfort, despite the void created here on Earth.

Bob proudly wore #71 during his semi-pro football days with the Manitowoc Chiefs. That jersey hangs at "the lot" in Cecil, WI - his happy place in his 10-year retirement. Bob could spend entire days there puttering in the garage, organizing things in a way only he understood, and soaking up the quiet.

Recreation was his therapy. Bob enjoyed over 50 years of snowmobiling with friends and family, hunting up north, golfing, relaxing in his pool, driving his Corvette, and yes, he even claimed to enjoy fishing-though launching the boat was an optional part of that activity.

While he wasn't the most eager traveler, Bob racked up memorable trips with Sherry, from the day they wed on May 4, 1974 throughout their 51 years together, including the 1988 Olympics in Canada, and sunny escapes to Riviera Maya and St. Lucia (his favorite!).

He loved his family fiercely - his son, Andrew (Ann) Hintz; daughter, Shaya (Gary) Swanson; granddaughters, Annabelle and Shelby Hintz, and even the granddog, Colby Jack Swanson. There wasn't much - if anything - he wouldn't do for them.

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Patricia Riegert; brother-in-law, Terry (Sharon) Riegert and niece and nephews, Stacy, Matt, and Jason, and their families; sister, Betty Van Den Broek and brother, Norman Hintz Jr.

He was preceded death by his dad Norman Hintz Sr. and father-in-law Marvin Riegert.

Bob leaves behind a strong legacy of faith, family, hard work, and no-nonsense wisdom.

The Memorial Service for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hortonville with Rev. Tristan Paustian officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

We know exactly where he is: enjoying Heaven- cruising freshly groomed snowmobile trails stretching for miles, enjoying the rumble of his classic Corvette cruising down a winding road, and relaxing with a glass of Woodford Reserve in hand. Oh, and don't forget the hot dogs!

Peaceful. Proud. And finally, on his own eternal time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mission Myeloma.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Baskaya and the medical team at UW-Health University Hospital, as well as the care team at Moments Hospice.
