Robert McKee Obituary

Robert "Pete" P. McKee, age 74, of Spring Grove, peacefully passed away on January 15, 2025, at Northwestern Hospital, McHenry with his loving family by his side. Pete was born on Monday, March 7, 1950, in Waukegan, to Joseph and Pauline (Zikuda) McKee. He was a 1968 graduate of Round Lake High School and was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam war shortly after graduating high school. He was honorably discharged in 1971. On December 31, 1999, Pete married Karen Irslinger-Leopold, together they celebrated 25 years of marriage.
Pete was a passionate golfer who found joy on the greens and a dedicated athlete who ran the Chicago Marathon three times and participated in several mini triathlons. After Pete was discharged from the Army he rode across the country on his motorcycle several times with friends. A true Chicago sports enthusiast, he cheered passionately for the Bears, Blackhawks, and Cubs. Pete was a loyal volunteer, lending his time to the RBC Heritage, John Deere Classic, Women's Kemper Open and the BMW Championship golf tournaments. Also, close to his heart was helping veterans assimilate back into society. Donating golf clubs for Veterans therapy. Pete spent the span of his career with ComEd including the construction of electrical substations and the nuclear power station in Zion. Upon retiring, he spent more than 18+ years working at the Grand Geneva Golf Club where he was well-connected with a wide network of friends. A loving husband, stepdad, grandpa, son and brother who cherished his entire family deeply. The light of his life was watching his grandsons grow up and participate in all their activities and milestones. His legacy and memories will be honored and cherished always.
Left behind to treasure Pete's memory are his loving wife, Karen; stepson, Bert (Katie) Irslinger; grandsons, Payton, Christian Irslinger; siblings, Sharon (Mike) Kristoffersen, Michael (Jean) McKee, Donna (the late Richard) Boyd, Sue (Greg) Fosburgh, Kevin (Maureen) McKee, Nancy Whittall, sister in laws Angela (Steven) Strom and Bonnie (John) Pastore; many nieces, nephews, cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. until the 4:00 P.M. Prayer service at 4:00 P.M. Celebration of Life Service at Thompson Spring Grove Funeral Home, 8103 Wilmot Road, Spring Grove, IL
