In Loving Memory of Robert "Butch" McKim
At the age of 81, Robert "Butch" McKim passed away from a stroke, now resting peacefully
alongside his beloved parents, sisters, and other cherished loved ones. While words may
struggle to convey the depth of our grief, Butch would often remind us, "Sh*t ain't right!"
Born in the Bronx, New York, to Robert and Mary McKim, Butch was one of nine children.
Despite facing a challenging upbringing, he devoted his life to hard work and providing for his
family. At the age of 17, he met Patricia Sweet on a blind date, and they united in marriage in
March of 1965, embarking on a journey filled with love and companionship. Though Patricia
dreamed of becoming a nun, Butch lovingly redirected her dreams and turned her into a
devoted wife, building a life together. They raised four wonderful children: Bobby, Timmy, Kevin,
and Sharon. In his later years, Butch embraced the joyful titles of "Grampy" and "Pop Pop" to his
six grandchildren: Patrick, Liam, Ciara, Rory, Lacey, and Jaxon.
After a fulfilling career as a truck driver, Butch retired to a lakehouse in Forked River, New
Jersey, where he enjoyed the peaceful surroundings and the simple pleasures of life. He often
remarked, "I've got more miles backing up than you've got going forward." Rarely seen without a
pack of Lucky Strikes, he delighted those around him with an endless supply of silly
jokes-delivered, of course, in the wrong order. More than just a father and grandfather, Butch
was a steadfast friend, always the first to offer a ride, secure a great deal on a new car, or
engage in a long, heartfelt conversation.
Butch had a remarkable ability to make friends with people from all walks of life. His open heart
and genuine nature allowed him to connect with everyone he met. He loved spending time at
the racetrack on his birthday, trying his luck at the casino, and enjoying a good breakfast at
Manhattan Bagel. His passion for life and his ability to find joy in the simplest moments were
truly infectious.
His spirit will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever
remain in our hearts.
