Robert E. "Bob" or "Mitch" Mitchell, 79, of Oakdale, North Fayette Township, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 in Bridgeville Rehab Center.
Bob was born on December 8, 1945 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late William J. and Dorothy M. Marshall Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was a retired from Gulf Oil where he spent 30 years working. He had many different jobs while with the company, working as a clerk, driver and plant man. Bob loved keeping active. Although technically retired he lived a very busy lifestyle. Bob was a member of the Rock in Oakdale where he was active for many of years. Bob was also an avid golfer, bowler, card and softball player. He was an avid sport fan, not only of softball but the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. Bob would often videotape Steelers games from the sidelines. In his daughter's younger years he enjoyed coaching her softball teams. Even when he was not the official coach, Bob would coach from the sidelines. Later in life Bob enjoyed watching college basketball with his daughter too. Not only did they watch games at home but were fortunate enough to attend many together as well. Bob's home away from home was his camp. He was affectionately known as "PJ Bob" as he always wore his pj pants around the campsite. He will fondly be remembered up at camp for sitting on his porch, coffee in hand, waving and smiling at all that pass by.
Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia E. Haseben Mitchell, daughter, Kristin Sue (Christopher) Mitchell Nardei, his four-legged best friend, Thunderbolt David, nieces, Janet Mitchell and Holly Haseben, nephew, Russell Mitchell and numerous cousins.
Along with his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his brother, William J. Mitchell Jr and an infant brother, Robin Mitchell.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800).
