Robert "Roby" Robichaux Obituary

A Funeral Mass for Robert “Gerry” Robichaux, 88, will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 425 McCormick St., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Rd. in Bossier City. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Officiating the service will be Father Fidel Mondragon.

Gerry was born on July 30, 1936, to Dr. Francis J. and Lucille E. Robichaux in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Gerry was a proud Baton Rouge native before calling Bossier City, LA his home, and lifelong champion of Louisiana Sports. He earned his journalism degree from LSU in 1959, where he was a member of Sigma Chi and sports editor of The Daily Reveille during the university’s legendary 1958 national championship season.

Less than a year out of college, Gerry was hired by the legendary Jack Fiser as a sportswriter for The Shreveport Times. Over the course of 27 years, nine of which were spent as sports editor, he became a trusted voice in local and regional sports, covering everything from high school playoffs to college rivalries with a focus on storytelling and community. He was a stalwart of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, serving as its president in 1969, where he instituted a code of ethics, the Ace Higgins Scholarship, and a statewide writing competition to promote journalistic excellence. He was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.

Beyond the newsroom, Gerry’s service extended to the Army Reserves, the Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club of Shreveport, and youth coaching. After his journalism career, he became the marketing director for the YMCA of Shreveport-Bossier, where he helped launch the Northwest Louisiana District Senior Olympics—an initiative he supported for 19 years, including producing its Seniorific Magazine.

Gerry was a man of heart and purpose. He was married to his beloved wife, Patricia Robichaux, for nearly 50 years. Together, they built a life full of love, faith, and laughter. He was a proud father to Frances and Joey, and a devoted grandfather who loved to tell stories, cheer from the sidelines, and always be there with support and kindness. His family meant everything to him, and the values he lived by will live on through them.

Gerry’s life was a testament to service, integrity, and community. The institutions he helped shape and the people he mentored and inspired stand as lasting tributes to a life lived fully and generously.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Francis J. and Lucille E. Robichaux; sister, Frances Robichaux Bahlinger, and brother, Thomas Robichaux. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Robichaux; daughter, Frances Carter, and husband, Chris; son, Joey Robichaux, and wife, Brittany; grandchildren, Lauren Whittington and husband, Colby, Zoey Robichaux, Joe Sam Carter, and Luke Robichaux, and one great-grandchild, Mary Catherine Whittington.

Honoring Gerry as pallbearers will be Chris Carter, Colby Whittington, Brandon Mitchell, Nicholas Piro, Craig Causey, Joe Wood, and Andy Bahlinger. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jim McLain and Nico Van Thyn.
