Robert Rae Slate, age 78 of New Baltimore passed away on June 30, 2025 at the Michigan Veterans Home in Chesterfield, Michigan.
Robert affectionately known as "Dusty" to his family was born on May 29, 1947 in Detroit. He was raised by the late Glendora (Holloway) and Anthony Demaria in St. Clair Shores. After proudly serving his country in the Army, he came home to marry the love of his life Michele (Charbeneau). They went on to raise their family in New Baltimore, becoming part of the Anchor Bay Community. Every summer "Bob" would take his family camping all over Michigan. He always took the time to find himself a new "favorite" fishing spot! After 50+ years in telecommunications, Bob retired and bought the Winnebago of his dreams to venture out across the states. Later on choosing to spend time with his great-grandkids and extended family at campgrounds closer to home.
Bob leaves behind hid daughter Jennifer Riebel, son Adam (Crystal) Slate, granddogger Cleo, grandchildren Rachel Heaphy, Todd "TJ" (Brittany) Riebel, Austin Slate, Logan Slate, great-grandchildren Lucas, Ray, Victor and Lillian, sister Antonina (Adel) Hannosh, brothers Anthony (Lori) Demaria, Dominic (Sandra) Demaria and Joseph (Kimberly) Demaria. Dusty will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who affectionately would call him "Uncle Dog".
He was predeceased by his wife Michele, his son Matthew (Maureen) Slate, his siblings Duane (Susan) Slate and Michael Demaria.
Robert will always be known for his loving strength, compassion, sense of humor, big heart, kindness and most of all his generosity.
Visitation for Robert will be on Sunday, July 6, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wasik Funeral Home located at 35259 23 Mile Road in New Baltimore.
