The family of Robert “Zim” Zimmer of Cumming, GA is saddened to announce his passing on August 23, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born in the borough of Queens in New York, NY in 1940.

Known by most as Bob or Zim, he grew up in the Laurelton neighborhood of Queens and attended Carnegie Institute of Technology where he earned his bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering. After college, he briefly pursued an opportunity with the aerospace company McDonnell Douglas in California but later returned to the east coast taking a job with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT where he began a successful 37-year engineering career, earning his master’s degree along the way. One of his promotions required a transfer to Columbus, GA in 1990, where he completed his career, retiring in 2000. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement and eventually relocated to Cumming, GA in 2014 where he and his wife Pam settled into their new home and shared the happiest days of their retirement together.

A devoted and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, he was an avid golfer and word puzzle enthusiast. He enjoyed hiking, riding his bike and exercising every day. He was active in his community and loved by all. A kind and gentle man, he was always genuinely interested in everyone he met, going out of his way to greet and get to know them.

In addition to his loving wife Pam at home, he is survived by his sister Susan Zimmer and her wife Regina Cicchetti of Leland, NC and his children; Paul Zimmer and his children Ethan and Colin of West Harford, CT, Brian Zimmer and his wife Soraya and Brian’s children Brooke, Griffin and Brett of New Windsor, NY and Sean Martin and his wife Erin and their children Campbell and Cooper of Venice, FL. He was predeceased by his parents Muriel and Otto and sister Carol Barry.

The family is planning a Celebration of Life gathering in Cumming, GA in early October for family and friends to join and remember Bob, share stories and celebrate his beautiful life which had such a tremendous and lasting impact on us all.
