I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearance. In humble submission to the Will of God, Miller Funeral Services and Crematory sorrowfully announce the earthly departure of Mrs. Roberta McMillian Couch, 48 of Crestview, FL formerly of Marion Junction, AL.
Born on 16 February 1977 in Selma, AL, she was the daughter of Marzel Cunningham McMillian and the late Benjamin McMillian of Marion Junction, AL. At an early age she was baptized at Salem Primitive Baptist Church in Orville, AL.
She attended Keith Middle-High School in Orville, AL, Wallace Community College in Selma, AL and the Technical College of the Lowcountry in Beaufort, SC.
Roberta met her husband while he was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro in Irvine, CA. They were married on 18 August 1996 at the Clark County courthouse in Las Vegas, NV, beginning a lifelong journey filled with travel and dedication to family and country. As a devoted military spouse, Roberta embraced the challenges and adventures of military life, navigating numerous relocations and building a home for her family at every new duty station. She supported Elisha and their family during several relocations to Beaufort, SC; Phoenix and Yuma, AZ; and Jacksonville, NC. She raised their family singlehandedly while he served in numerous deployments throughout the United States, Japan, Iraq and Afghanistan.
After Elisha retired from the Marine Corps, they settled in Crestview, FL, where Roberta continued to nurture her family and pursue her passions for DIY projects, interior decorating, gardening, working outside and decorating for every holiday. She also loved traveling and took every opportunity to visit her family in Alabama when her health allowed her. Roberta will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her strength and grace in the face of challenges, and her infectious spirit. She was a resilient, supportive, and compassionate woman, known for her ability to create a sense of community wherever she went. She was known and will always be remembered for her warm smile and kind heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and patriotism.
Roberta is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Elisha; her children, Derrick, Dominique, Benjamin and Amelia. She is also survived by her sisters; Betty Cunningham of Selma, AL, Mary Smith, Catherine Griffin and Maggie Cunningham all of Marion Junction, AL and her brothers; Willie Cunningham (Lashonda) of Marion Junction, AL and Eugene Rivers of Cincinnati, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends. She is preceded in death by her son; Christoper Couch, father; Benjamin McMillian, sisters; Lauren King, Brenda McMillian Gayle and brother; Cleophus Cunningham.
A visitation will be held on Friday, 18 July 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Randall Miller Funeral Home, 608 St. Phillips St. P.O. Box 1471, Selma, Alabama.
