Roger Leroy Heitman, age 78, of Mason, Illinois, passed away peacefully at 9:42 pm, Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his home with his loving wife by his side.
Roger was born on December 17, 1946, the son Loneus E. and Ruth V. (Schmidt) Heitman. He married Regina Evans on December 19, 1975, in Friendsville, Illinois and they shared 49 years together.
Roger devoted 35 years to the State of Illinois in Effingham, where he served as an ET4/Engineer. His career was marked by commitment and professionalism, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers. Roger's technical acumen and problem-solving skills made a lasting impact on the projects he undertook, contributing significantly to the engineering community throughout his tenure.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Roger enjoyed a rich tapestry of hobbies and interests. Woodworking was a particular passion of his, reflecting not only his skill but also his creativity and attention to detail. He found joy in transforming raw materials into beautiful creations, leaving behind pieces that will be cherished for years to come.
Alongside his beloved partner, Regina, Roger took great pleasure in exploring the world. Together they traveled extensively across the United States, including memorable trips to the beautiful landscapes of Hawaii and the breathtaking wilderness of Alaska. These adventures created lasting memories that filled their lives with happiness and exploration.
Roger also cherished his time on the golf course, finding solace on the green whenever possible. The camaraderie shared with fellow golfers and the thrill of the game were sources of joy in his life, representing a perfect blend of relaxation and challenge.
Roger is survived by his wife: Regina Heitman of Mason; 2 daughters: Shaunell (Dennis) McGee of Louisville, Rayna (Mike) Davis of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Dale (Judi) Heitman of Watson, Alan Heitman of Louisville, Eric Heitman of Louisville, Lyle Heitman of Louisville; 3 sisters: Elaine (Ray) Ewing of Warrensburg, Illinois, Joanne (Jeff) Cotrupe of Terre Haute, Indiana, Karen (Jim) McMahon of Flora.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
It was Roger's wishes for cremation and no services will be held at this time. Memorials may be made in Roger's name to any charity of the Donor's choice.
