Roger Wilford Redmond
January 23, 1938 – May 12, 2025
Roger Wilford Redmond, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2025, at the age of 87 surrounded by his family.
Roger was born on January 23, 1938, in Eureka, Utah, to Wilford Kilburn and Mary Oram Redmond. He grew up in a loving home with his two brothers, Gary and David, whose bond of brotherhood endured throughout their lives. Roger graduated from Tintic High School in 1956.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, Roger met the love of his life, Beth Marene Gardner, on a blind date. He was immediately captivated and he doted on her for the next 63 years. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti Utah Temple on August 24, 1962.
Together, Roger and Marene raised seven children and built a life full of adventure, service, and faith. Roger dedicated many years of hard work to the Tooele Army Depot, which led the family on memorable journeys around the world-including extended stays in Iran, Korea, and Hawaii.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roger served faithfully in many callings, including Branch President in Iran and Korea, Stake Missionary, and Bishop of the Tooele 6th Ward. As a long-time scout leader, his dedication to the youth was honored with the Silver Beaver Award, one of the highest recognitions in the Boy Scouts of America.
Following his retirement, Roger and Marene continued their life of service through missions at the Church Office Building West, the Employment Center as specialists, and in the Farmington New Mexico Mission. They served as temple workers at the Salt Lake City Temple for many years prior to its closure for renovation. His life was one of faith, selfless service, and unwavering devotion to family.
Roger was dedicated to service throughout his life. He was actively involved in the West Desert Amateur Radio Club where he instructed many as he shared his love of amateur radios, to include his children and grandchildren. He served in the presidency of the club for many years and was the voice of net control during difficult times including COVID.
Roger is survived by his loving wife Marene and their seven children: Debbie Hitesman, Carla (Marc) van Oene, Monica Parks, Douglas (Katie), Kendall (Sarah), Katrina Mick, and Melinda "Mert" (Daniel) Russo. He also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren-with three more expected.
Roger's legacy of love, humility, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Funeral services will be on Friday, May 16th at 1:00 PM at the Tooele Stake Center located at 253 South 200 East in
Tooele, Utah. A viewing will be at 12 o'clock before the funeral services.
