Roland D. Burch, 85 of Cumberland, passed away peacefully at the Altercare of Newark South on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.
Roland was born on January 13, 1939 in Byesville, to the late Robert and Violet (Gerrick) Burch. Roland proudly served in the United States Navy, where he spent several years exemplifying honor, courage, and commitment. After his military service, he worked as a chemical engineer and played professional football for the New York Giants for five years. Roland eventually retired from New Jersey Transit as a bus driver. He was an avid reader that loved to learn, a self-taught guitarist and organist, a diver, and a photographer. Roland also enjoyed horseback riding and hunting.
Roland is survived by his daughter, Tracey (Sean) Barnes; his grandchildren, Charles, Luna, and Lily Barnes; his brother, Daryl Burch of Cambridge; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitations for Roland will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Farus Funeral Home of Cumberland. A memorial service for Roland will be held at 4 pm following visitations at the funeral home. Pastor Greg Thacker will officiate the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Guernsey County Veterans Council and conducted after the service.
