Mr. Ronald Lee Avant, 77, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday morning, July 10, 2025, at the Veteran's Victory House in Walterboro. Ronnie was the loving husband of forty-five years to the late Mrs. Mamie Dell Pye Avant who preceded in in death on June 22, 2025.
Born December 10, 1947, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of the late J. Derrick Avant and the late Margie Beach Avant. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was a lifelong master brick mason. He worked alongside his brother, Decky in bricklaying before eventually creating his own company, Ronald Avant Masonry. Ronnie was well-known and highly sought after for his skill and strong work ethic, creating countless brick and mortar structures throughout the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
He was a lifelong member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro where he served as an usher and was a member of the Robert Beach Sunday School Class. He will be fondly remembered for his ability at wood crafting.
Surviving are: four children, Matt Avant (Heather) of Easley, Marshall Avant (Micki) of Walterboro, Chris Bowers of Walterboro, and Heath Bowers (Windy) of Walterboro; three brothers, Derrick "Decky" Avant (Amy) of Walterboro, Dennis Avant (Betsy) of Lady's Island, and James "Buckshot" Avant (Sharon) of Pickens; eight grandchildren, Ainsley Stanley (Isaac), Abby Avant, Landon Avant (Kelsey), Gracie Tyler (Matthew), Noah Avant (Kiersten), Luke Avant, Tyler Bowers (Erika), and Blake Bowers (Shannon); and eight great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Janice Avant Patterson on June 9, 2025.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock Saturday morning, July 12, 2025, from Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, 126 Doctor's Creek Road, Walterboro. The Reverend Todd Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard.
The family will receive friends preceding the service at 10 o'clock that morning in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Doctor's Creek Baptist Church, Post Office Box 2, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
