"LIFE JOURNEY"
Ronald "Ronnie/Plug" Diggs
Ronald Diggs (affectionately known as "Ronnie/Plug") answered God's call and transition from this life to eternal rest on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Ochsner/ St. Charles Hospital at the age of 71.
BIRTH/REBIRTH
Ronnie was born on May 17, 1954, to David, Sr., and the late Mildred Green Diggs.
He was a lifelong resident of Boutte, LA. Ronnie was baptized on July 9, 1963, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Boutte, by his grandfather, the late Rev. Albert Green, Sr.
EDUCATION
Ronald graduated from Hahnville High School, Class of 1972. He attended Delgado Community College of New Orleans, Louisiana and studied drafting. He retired from Monsanto Chemical Company in Luling, LA, after 35 years of employment as a Technician.
MUSICAL JOURNEY
With a lifelong love for music and over 58 years of experience, Ronald served as the Musical Director at the Mount Zion Community Church of Boutte. Ronald love for music started at a young age when he taught himself to play on a $40 organ purchased as a gift by his parents. Ronald used music from the radio to continue developing his talent and taught himself to play by ear. A few years later, he found mentors and teachers in Bro. Hillary Dozier, Darrius Williams and Ms. Anna Anderson and other talented musicians.
In 1989, Ronald became the organist for the Sunbeam's Youth Choir under the mentorship of Mt. Zion Baptist Church Choir Director, Bro. Dozier. Bro. Dozier retired in October of 1989, passing the musical torch to Bro. Diggs who was installed as the church organist and musical director in January of 1990.
Ronald passion for serving God through music led him to the vision of bringing choirs together on one accord and in one location to praise God through song. Out of his vision was born the Mt. Zion Gospel Festival held on the church grounds. The Mt. Zion Gospel Festival has been successful in attracting choirs, soloist, and bands of all denomination from near and far. The success of the festival continued to grow under Ronald and in 2021, we had to relocate to the Westbank Bridge Park in Luling.
Ronald musical skills were featured with the following Gospel Groups: Gospel Inspirations of Boutte, Joyettes of Boutte, Voice of Zion, and One Accord. Additionally, he fulfilled the role of Organist for the Antioch Baptist Church for 7 years and provided organ support at the Canaan Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Paradis.
Ronald was a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Lakers.
