Van Buren--- With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Ronald S. Michaud on June 7, 2025, at the age of 92.
Ron was a humble, kind person devoted to his beloved wife, Sim, their family and his community. A University of Maine graduate, he joined his father's business before opening The Ski Shop in Van Buren. Ron's energy and enthusiasm touched many. He helped found the Van Buren Ski Tow, built and maintained cross-country and snowshoe trails, guided a trip for Ski Magazine, and led countless groups on hikes, bike rides, ski trips, canoeing and kayaking adventures.
Ron was the son of the late Samuel and Beatrice Michaud, whose legacy he proudly carried forward with grace. He lived fully-traveling with his wife each year to explore the Rockies in the U.S. and Canada -and brought quiet strength, humor, and generosity to all he did. He was a true jack of all trades, inventive, and took great joy in tending his organic garden.
Ron will be deeply missed by his wife of 72 years, Sim; son, Lyn and wife, Karla Michaud; daughter, Laurie Bird; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his three sisters, Maxine and husband, Kevin Parent, Marlene Parent, and Bobbie and husband, Bill Frasier; his in-laws, Joan and Bob Brown, Norman Gagnon, AnnMarie and Reginald Cobb, and Diane and Ken Dufour; and their families.
The family is deeply thankful to the compassionate professionals who cared for Ron and brought him comfort.
At his request, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to The Sierra Club-Maine, PO Box 3760, Portland, ME 04104, an organization Ron supported for its dedication to protecting the natural world he so loved.
Arrangements are a service of Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, ME 04785.
