It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Andrew Sopko, affectionately known as Andy, on June 29, 2025. Born on May 27, 1946, in Trenton, NJ, Ronald lent his courageous and witty spirit to this world for 79 years. His remarkable life journey took him from Trenton to Annapolis, Maryland, and finally to Felton, Delaware, where he spent the last 30 years of his life.
Ronald was an ambitious and dedicated man, with a career that mirrored his tenacious character. He served in the AirForce for just under 10 years and, as an Associate of the National Security Agency (NSA) in Maryland, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to maintaining the security and safety of his country. Ronald retired in 1996, yet his determination and zeal for life did not cease with his professional obligations. He found joy in bowling, engaging in competitive games of Yatzee, and cherishing Sunday breakfasts at Bob Evans. His most treasured moments, however, were those spent spoiling his beloved wife, Linda Whitlow-Sopko, with gifts of jewelry and the love he reserved just for her.
Despite the estrangement from his own family, Ronald found warmth and acceptance in his marriage to Linda. Over their short but meaningful seven years together, he experienced the love and support of a family that welcomed him with open arms and hearts. His wife Linda; his step-daughter, Scarlett Rhoades; his step-grandchildren, Sara Yacek, Christian (Sabrina) Yanacek, Sabrina (Christian) Risley, Scarlett (Taj) Zimmerman, Rhoman Carter, Taj (Scarlett) Fairley; his great-grandchildren, Gunner McFall, La'Lani Fairley; and his step-son, George (Shannon - deceased) Carter, survive Ronald. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Father Sopko, and his step-daughter, Shannon (George) Carter.
In the words of Shakespeare, "All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances." Ronald's exit leaves a void in our lives, yet his memories remain as a testament to his courage, ambition, wit, and dedication.
We invite you to share your memories and upload photographs of Ronald on his memorial page, a tribute to a man who lived his life with such passion and courage. Your stories and images will help us all remember the joy and love that Ronald brought into our lives.
