Rosalind Reid Sims, age 81, of Porter, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on June 5, 2025. She was born on June 22, 1943, in Plainfield, New Jersey, the eldest of three daughters of the late Dr. William Green Reid and Lucille Womack Reid of Columbus, Georgia.
Rosalind spent her formative years in Columbus, where she graduated from Spencer High School in 1961. A bright and driven student, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Dramatic Club, the Celestials Social Club, and the National Homemakers of America. She was also named as the most talkative in her high school who's who and in the senior class prophecy she was predicated to be a speech therapist.
She began her college education at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, attending from 1961 to 1963. In 1964, she married the late Captain Paul Edward Sims of the United States Army, and together they had one son, Dr. Paul Sims Jr.
Following the end of her marriage in 1971, Rosalind moved to New Haven, Connecticut, and continued her education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts in 1976 and went on to receive her Master of Social Work from Atlanta University in 1978.
A committed and compassionate professional, Rosalind dedicated her career to social work and healthcare administration. She served as a clinical social worker in Charlotte, North Carolina, from 1978-1979, and Cincinnati, Ohio, from 79-84 before transitioning into leadership roles at prominent hospitals across the country. Her administrative career included roles at Meharry Medical College in Nashville from 84-86, Bay-State Medical Center from 86-88, Jeff Davis and LBJ Hospitals in Houston, from 88-90, Parkland Hospital in Dallas, from 90-98, Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. from 2000-2002, and Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu in 2000, and until she moved back to Houston in 2009.
Rosalind was deeply involved in community service and was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., initiated into the Kappa Omega Chapter on March 31, 1977. She was also an active member of The Links, Incorporated, joining the Dallas Chapter in May 1994. She went on to serve as president of both the Dallas and Hawaii chapters. She was also a member of The Girls Friends, Inc.
A lifelong political enthusiast, Rosalind attended the Million Woman March in Washington, D.C., and closely followed national politics. She also had a deep love for cooking, amassing a cherished collection of recipes gathered from family, friends, and her own culinary curiosity.
In retirement, she settled in Houston, Texas, to be near her beloved grandchildren: Mahealani Linda Sims, Keenan Sencio Sims, and Paul Edward Sims III, who were the joy of her later years.
Rosalind's legacy is one of service, intellect, compassion, and creativity. She will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew her.
Rosalind is survived by her son, Dr. Paul Sims of Porter, Texas, her grandchildren, Mahealani Linda Sims of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Keenan M. Sencio-Sims of Katy, Texas, Paul E. Sims III of Porter, Texas. Her devoted cousins, James Cleveland Reid (Stephanie) and Portia Elaine Reid (Titus),both from Dallas Texas. Godchildren, Elise Nelson-Leary and Jasmine Berry, both of Washington D.C.

Rosalyn was a family friend oh my gosh, I can´t even say for how many years my sister and I used to help her take care of Paul when he was a baby in Columbus, Georgia. Roslyn is the reason I became a social worker and initially I started out also in healthcare. She was always like a big sister to me and her laugh and giggle was just something that always made you smile. I will miss having conversations with her and hearing her laugh rest in peace Rosalyn love Alice.
