John Henry Williams, fondly known as "John Henry," was born on June 7, 1942, in Anderson, South Carolina, to the late Willie Williams and Ollie McRainey. He attended Westside High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged.
After his military service of six (6) years, John Henry moved to New York City, where he built a wonderful life. He was employed by the New York City Transit Authority for 17 years before retiring. During that time, he married the love of his life, Eunice Elizabeth Sims, and together they shared many beautiful years and raised their beloved daughter, Natasha Thissette "Haneefah" Harris.
John Henry loved the Lord deeply. He was a devoted member of Asbury Memorial Baptist Church, where he served faithfully and rose to the position of Chairman Deacon. He served as a Deacon for over 10 years. He truly loved his church family and took great pride in serving others through his ministry and his heart for people.
He was an outdoorsman at heart and found peace and joy in fishing. He also loved to dance-if there was music playing, John Henry was ready to move! Known for his quick wit and infectious laugh, he brought smiles to everyone around him. He had a generous heart, always willing to lend a helping hand-but he also knew how to make a dollar stretch farther than anyone else!
John Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Williams and Ollie McRainey; his beloved wife, Eunice Elizabeth Sims Williams; his cherished daughter, Haneefah "Natasha" Harris, his grand-daughter Naimah T. Harris, his sister Mary Virginia Williams and his brothers Lee Andrew Williams and Harold Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory his grandchildren, Stanley Harris Jr. and Nadirah T. Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, church family, and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
John Henry lived a life filled with faith, laughter, and love. His presence brought light and joy to all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Asbury Memorial Baptist Church. The interment will follow with honors at 2:00 p.m. at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
