Rosie Lee Payton, age 94, of Dittmer, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, in Festus, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 24, 1930, in Bunker, Missouri, Rosie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leon Payton, with whom she shared many beautiful years of marriage.
Survived by her children Gene (Sheila) Payton, Barbara (the late Wally) Payton, Carolyn (Ronald) Read, Ray (the late Joanie) Payton, Steve (Amy) Payton, Terri (Curtis) Spires, and Tim (Tammy) Payton.
Rosie made her home in Dittmer since 1965, where she created a haven of warmth and welcome for all who entered. She was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family, raising seven children and later delighting in the lives of her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A woman of simple joys and quiet strength, Rosie had a deep love for reading, especially while rocking on her screened porch where she watched birds, fireflies, and listened to the comforting sounds of the evening. She had an adventurous heart and chronicled her travels through thoughtful journaling-a testament to her curiosity and appreciation for life.
Family was always at the center of Rosie's world. She was known for hosting unforgettable Christmas gatherings, where her warmth and laughter filled the home. She loved playing cards with her grandchildren, sharing stories and smiles late into the night. A loyal fan of the Hallmark Channel, Rosie cherished love stories both on screen and in life.
Rosie's legacy is one of grace, joy, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. She will be remembered for her easy smile, her love of the little things, and the way she made everyone feel at home.
She leaves behind a lifetime of love and cherished memories. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever celebrated by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30, Cedar Hill, MO 63016.
