Roy Estel Brandhurst Jr., 84, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma. He was born in New Orleans, LA on Dec 30, 1940, to the late Roy Estel and Ned "Sookie" Brandhurst. Roy, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, graduated from Fortier High School and then attended Southeastern University in Hammond. Everyone who knew Roy knew he was a sports fanatic! He played basketball, football and baseball in high school. He then played baseball for Southeastern for two years, prior to being drafted by the Cleveland Indians where he played AAA baseball as a catcher. When Roy returned home, he began his career at the Port of New Orleans as a steamship clerk. After 30+ years, he retired and enjoyed golfing almost daily, being with friends and family, and watching all the sports he possibly could. He was also a devoted member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Jefferson, LA. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elaine Brandhurst and Carolyn Mauffrey, brother Richard Brandhurst, and daughter Nan Brandhurst Orgeron. Left to cherish his memory is his son Roy Brandhurst (Lori) and daughter Tiffany Brandhurst, his siblings Ray Brandhurst (Kay) and Barbara Bordelon, and grandchildren Michael, Cody, Brooke, Brandi, Hunter, Hayden, and Ryan. Also, he will be missed greatly by his great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124 followed by a funeral mass at 1:00 pm.
