Roy Francis Royer was born March 2, 1931, the second son of Howard and Audrey (Means) Royer. He passed away on July 1, 2025 at his home in Fredericktown, Missouri at the age of 94 years.
Roy graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1948. He was drafted into the Army in October 1951 and completed training in Hawaii before being assigned to the 45th Division's 179th Infantry Regiment in Korea. On the night of June 21,1952 he was severely wounded by artillery fragments. Roy received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his acts of heroism.
After his discharge, Roy attended Southeast Missouri State University and then transferred to the University of Missouri to complete his studies. He earned a Master's Degree of Science in Agriculture from the University of Missouri. After his graduation, he began working for the Food and Drug Administration in St. Louis. He then moved his family to Marshall, Missouri and began selling veterinary supplies for Midwest Veterinary Supply. In 1974, the family moved back to Silvermines and he became part of the Royer Brothers Farm partnership.
Roy married Joyce Smallen on September 15,1952 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include their four children: Leah Ann Royer Govreau of Fredericktown, Missouri; Randy (Jennifer) Royer of St. Charles, Missouri; Jill (David) Royer Walka of Fredericktown, Missouri; and Russyl Royer of Fredericktown, Missouri. He is also survived 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Grandsons include Chris Hinkle, Will Royer, Anthony Royer, Jace Royer, Aaron White, and Joshua White. Granddaughters include Rachael Hinkle, Meagan Burlock, Kelsey White, Savannah White, and Ashley Christopher. Great-granddaughters include Harley Gipson, Breanna Burlock, Aya Royer, Sirena Royer, Nyla Henn, and Amber Christopher. Great-grandsons include Aiden, Adam, and Ashton Christopher. He is also survived by one brother, Louis Royer of Fredericktown, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Howard, Shirley, Charles, Lee Gale, and Paul; one sister Linda Starkey; brothers-in-law Joe Allgier and George Starkey; nephews Rodney Royer and Nick Allgier; and one great nephew Joshua Royer.
Funeral services will be held at Follis & Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown, Missouri on Monday July 7, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm for family and 1pm-3pm for the public, and the funeral will begin at 3pm. Burial will be at Royer Cemetery in Silvermines.
