Ruth DelTorchio Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greely Funeral Home on Mar. 15, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth H. DelTorchio on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the age of 100. Ruth was the wife of the late John "Sonny" DelTorchio Jr. Ruthie and Sonny were married on Thanksgiving Day in 1947 and were married for 66 years until his passing in 2013. Ruth was born in Gloucester on August 12, 1924, to Philomena (Machado) and Emmanuel Brown. She grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1942.
Ruth loved to read, garden, and follow politics and current events. Ruthie's favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and having Sunday dinners with the whole family. For many years, Ruthie and Sonny went to Florida every fall and spring. They had great friends in Florida from all over the country and Europe.
Ruth is survived by her beloved sons, John III and his wife Lisa (Burgess) and their children, John IV and his wife Rebecca and their daughter Amber and her children Jayden and Jordan; Mark, who was Ruth's incredible caregiver; and Bruce and his wife Maribeth (Phinney) and their children, Hannah Tully and her husband Tim, and Kate and her partner Michael Coppa. Ruth was also able to meet her new great-granddaughter, Grace Tully. Another great grandchild will be born in June.
She is predeceased by her husband, Sonny; her parents; her siblings, Helen and her husband John Garlick, Phyllis and her husband Al Williams, and Manuel Brown and his wife Evetta.
The family is so grateful to have had Deana, Julie, and Iris as caregivers. Their care allowed Ruthie to remain in her own home until her passing.
At the family's request, all services will be private.

Wonderful memories of living next door to Ruth and John while growing up. Had the best visit with them at their home in late 90s when my husband and I were back in the hometown, and again in mid 2000's. Wonderful neighbors and great people. My condolences to the family. Stephanie (Green) McLeod (formerly of Lake Road).
