On July 2, 2025 Ryan James Furniss passed on to his heavenly home at the age of 50 after a difficult battle with cancer. Ryan was surrounded by his wife and children, parents and siblings as he took his final breath. Ryan leaves behind his beloved wife Rebekah Lillian (Woolley), 5 daughters, Brianna Shaye (Mark) Messick, Courtney Paige(Matt) Shawgo, Danielle (Dani) Rebekah, Pyper Lillian, and Ava Grace, 5 sons, Joshua Ryan, Ammon Michael, Andrew Teancum, Soloman James, an infant son Ezekiel Jude Furniss who passed away on April 3, 2018, and 2 grandchildren, grandson, Levi Henry and granddaughter Eden Delia.
Ryan was born on June 4, 1975 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gae Cloward Furniss and James Lee Furniss. He was the oldest of nine children. He grew up with his parents and siblings in Brigham City Utah. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1993 and served a successful mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Ryan and Rebekah were married in the Logan LDS Temple on December 20, 1997 and eventually settled in Tooele, Utah to raise their children. Ryan graduated from the University of Phoenix with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology in 2007 and worked in the Information Technology field until the end of his life. He loved his work and his co-workers.
Ryan loved playing board games and computer games. He enjoyed coaching soccer and shared that joy with his children. His greatest joy was to take care of his family and make them happy. Ryan was a wonderful scriptorian. His family sought him out for advice and understanding of the scriptures. Ryan also loved the mountains and the idea of camping including campfires, hiking, chopping wood, cooking over a fire, all things camping except sleeping in a tent. Ryan had a passion for music, especially the 80's rock music. His family enjoyed his creativity when something needed to be fixed whether at work or at home.
He had a strong testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and shared that testimony with his family. Ryan was passionate about supporting his fellow human beings especially those who were discriminated against or faced unfair disadvantages. Ryan was open minded to all political sides, always searching for the truth. Ryan was not afraid to speak his truth.
Ryan James Furniss is a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and nephew. He will be so very missed.
A viewing will be held Saturday, July 5th from 11:30-1:15 at Tate Mortuary in Tooele, Utah. A family prayer will follow at 1:15. Following the viewing, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at 752 N. 520 East, Tooele Utah.
