S. Arnold Pettigrew, a beloved husband, father, and great-grandfather, passed away on January 22, 2025, in Kirklin, Indiana, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 20, 1930, in Madison County, Indiana, he was a man whose heart was as vast as his talents and interests. Arnold dedicated 30 years of his life to Delco, where he worked as a tool and die maker and was a proud member of UAW Local 292. He graduated from Sheridan High School, Class of 1949, setting the foundation for a lifetime of learning and achievement. His passion for aviation led him to earn his pilot's license, which allowed him to fly a Cessna 152 and 172—an accomplishment he held dear.
Arnold was a man of many talents and interests; he enjoyed golfing, carpentry, water skiing, boating, and fishing. Raised in a family-oriented environment, he cherished the time spent with his loved ones, embodying the spirit of a faithful man who never met a stranger. He was a devoted member of the Six Points Church in Sheridan, Indiana and the Aero Club at Glendale Airport in Kokomo, Indiana.
Above all else, his proudest accomplishments included marrying his beloved wife of 72 years, Mary Arlene (Long) Pettigrew, whom he wed in Jeffersonville, Indiana on May 17, 1952. Together, they raised a family that was his pride and joy. He leaves behind five children: Allen (Marcia) Pettigrew of Westfield, Marianna Hoffman of Florida, Dale (Barb) Pettigrew of Texas, Tracey (Dennis) Hobson of Florida, and Mike (Julie) Pettigrew of Kirklin. He was a loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren—his legacy woven through each generation.
Arnold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, who remained his partner and confidante throughout their lives, as well as his parents, Clarence Grover and Grace May (Harlus) Pettigrew.
A graveside service will be held on January 28, 2025, at 11:00 am, located at 508 E. 6th Street Sheridan, Indiana 46069. Where family and friends will gather to celebrate his life and the love, he shared with all who knew him. Shirley Arnold Pettigrew leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and enduring love that will resonate through his family for years to come.
