Sal Palmeri è nato in provincia di Palermo nel 1941. Nel 1958 emigrò in America con la sua famiglia, dove completò gli studi. Ben presto entrò a far parte della Compagnia Filodrammatica di "Erberto Landi", famoso impresario di spettacoli e noto personaggio televisivo degli televisivo degli anni '50. Successivamente, lavorò come attore per diversi anni con la compagnia teatrale di "Gino Caimi". Dopo aver frequentato un corso di recitazione e regia presso l'Hunter College di New York, iniziò la sua attività di conduttore e produttore radiofonico, presentando programmi che lo resero presto famoso tra le comunità italiane. Diventò il presentatore italiano pi' richiesto per artisti come Claudio Villa, Gianni Morandi, Domenico Modugno, Albano, Mino Reitano, Don Backy, Massimo Ranieri, Antonello Venditti, I Pooh, Pupo, Little Tony e molti altri, esibendosi nei teatri pi' prestigiosi di New York, come la Carnegie Hall, il Madison Square Garden, la Philharmonic Hall, la Brooklyn Academy of Music, il Manhattan Center, il Town Hall, ecc. Scrisse una commedia musicale di grande successo che gli aprì le porte verso una carriera radiofonica, e lavorò come speaker per pi' di 19 anni presso le radio WHBI/fm, WBNX/am, WHOM/fm, WPOW/fm, WDAS/fm, WIFI/fm. Negli anni '60, svolse anche l'attività di impresario teatrale. Negli anni '70 iniziò a lavorare come DJ nelle discoteche di New York e del New Jersey, per un totale di tredici anni. Il 1° dicembre 1983, Sal Palmeri fondò Radio ICN (Italian Communication Network), la vera voce degli italiani in America, che ad oggi non ha mai interrotto la sua programmazione, trasmettendo 24 ore al giorno programmi di tutti i generi, come musica, sport, teatro, cinema, attualità, informazione, ecc. Grazie al lavoro di Sal Palmeri, la radio ICN è diventata un mezzo importante non solo di comunicazione, ma anche di diffusione della lingua e della cultura italiana. Ha contribuito notevolmente a mantenere unite le diverse comunità italiane, aiutandole a conservare viva la propria identità culturale e musicale. Nel 2010, Sal Palmeri è stato onorato per i suoi 45 anni di attività radiofonica, iniziata il 10 febbraio 1965. Ha presentato fino al 31 luglio 2013, ogni mattina dal lunedì al venerdì, il programma di intrattenimento "Buon giorno Italia", che comprendeva musica, notizie culturali e varie. Ha ricoperto il ruolo di direttore artistico del Festival della Canzone Italiana di New York per 3 anni, e nel 2012 ha portato la musica italiana a Broadway presentando il SAL PALMERI'S NEW YORK MUSIC FESTIVAL. Dal 10 aprile 2015 al 12 maggio 2023, Sal Palmeri ha presentato direttamente da New York il programma di successo "New York, New York" su Radio Amica, una radio di Partinico, in provincia di Palermo, Italia. Il programma era un contenitore di musica, notizie curiose, interviste, sketch comici e attualità ed era seguito ed ascoltato da persone di tutto il mondo.
Sal Palmeri, the founder of ICN Radio, was born in 1941. Since arriving in America in 1958, he has been actively involved in various artistic fields such as announcer, host, actor, DJ, and producer. Starting in the 1960s, following his radio success, Sal Palmeri presented shows in some of the biggest and most renowned theaters in New York, including Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Philharmonic Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Manhattan Center, Town Hall, and more. He had the opportunity to introduce and host performances by renowned Italian singers such as Claudio Villa, Gianni Morandi, Domenico Modugno, Albano, Mino Reitano, Don Backy, Massimo Ranieri, Antonello Venditti, I Pooh, Pupo, Little Tony, and many others. Sal Palmeri's radio programs were broadcast on stations like WHBI/fm, WBNX/am, WHOM/fm, WPOW/fm, WNWK/fm, WDAS/fm, and WIFI/fm, where he worked for over 23 years. In the 1970s, he also began working as a DJ in clubs in New York and New Jersey, which he continued for thirteen years. On December 1, 1983, Sal Palmeri founded ICN Radio (Italian Communication Network), which became the true voice of Italian Americans. To this day, ICN Radio has never interrupted its programs, broadcasting a wide range of content including music, sports, theater, cinema, current affairs, and information, 24 hours a day. On February 10, 1990, in honor of Sal Palmeri's twenty-fifth anniversary in radio, the United States House of Representatives proclaimed "Sal Palmeri Day" for the Ninth Congressional District of New York. Thanks to Sal Palmeri's dedication, ICN Radio has become not only an important means of communication but also a platform for promoting the Italian language and culture. It has played a significant role in keeping the various Italian communities together and preserving their cultural and musical identity. In 2010, Sal Palmeri was honored for his 45 years of radio activity, which began on February 10, 1965. He hosted the entertainment program "Buon giorno Italia" every morning from Monday to Friday until July 31, 2013, featuring music, cultural news, and various segments. He served as the artistic director of the New York Italian Song Festival for 3 years, and in 2012, he brought Italian music to Broadway by presenting the SAL PALMERI'S NEW YORK MUSIC FESTIVAL. From April 10, 2015, to May 12, 2023, Sal Palmeri directly hosted the successful program "New York, New York" on Radio Amica, a radio station in Partinico, in the province of Palermo, Italy. The program was a mix of music, interesting news, interviews attracting listeners from all over the world.
