Samuel Merriman Obituary

Samuel H. "Sam" Merriman, Jr., of Ashtabula passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Ashtabula Regional Medical Center. He was born April 13, 1951, in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of the late Samuel H. Sr., and Alice T. Merriman. Sam's family moved to the Ashtabula area from West Virginia when he was a child. After high school, Sam continued his education and earned his associate's degree in electrical engineering. Over the years, he applied his professional talents across a wide range of fields, including compliance, testing, electrical assembly, instrumentation, and research and development. His work reflected his passion for problem-solving. Sam retired in 2024. In his early years, Sam found joy racing sailboats. He was a natural tinkerer who loved fixing things, working around the house, and caring for his pets. On May 23, 1998, he married the love of his life, Rene'e S. Merriman. He adored her and loved her children as his own. He was known to finish many "honey do" lists because Rene'e wanted their home to be cozy and holidays to be special. Together they shared many wonderful years together until her passing in 2013. In addition to his wife, Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Andy Sheldon and Sean Sheldon, and his granddaughters Megan Comer and Elvie Achukwu. He is survived by his children Tim (Teri) Sheldon of Orlando, FL; Misty Sheldon of Acworth, GA; Kristy (Trent) Gould of Hattiesburg, MS; and John Sheldon of Cincinnati, OH. He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 6PM at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home, 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Calling hours will be from 4PM until the time of services at 6PM.
