Sandra Lynne "Sandy" Farnsworth of Rusk, formerly longtime resident of Beaumont, passed away May 30, 2025 at a hospital in Jacksonville, TX. She was born April 8, 1942 in Conroe, TX to Thurman Earl "Pete" Smith and Carol Hagle Smith. Sandy married Jim Farnsworth November 19, 1976 in Beaumont, TX. He preceded her in death December 23, 2017. Sandy retired from the Market Basket Grocery Store after 36 years of service. In her role as a Cashier, Trainer and as the Courtesy Booth Operator, she was very friendly and got to know her customers on a personal level. This is how she first met Jim. She was a very loyal employee and a nurturing friend for her coworkers. She was an active member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Beaumont, TX, where she was involved in the Daughters of the King, and lovingly engaged in many acts of community service. She loved to go square dancing with Jim over the decades and was a member of many square dance clubs, most recently, the Rainbow Steppers. She made many of the square dance dresses that she and her daughter, Carolyn would wear and they would have a wonderful time. She and Jim loved motorcycling through the hill country and camping out. She was very happy spending the last three years of her life in the hills around Rusk. Jim was a tour bus driver and guide and Sandy loved accompanying his as a co-guide on some of his trips to Branson, MO. Sandy loved games and one of her favorite past times was playing Canasta with her family.
Sandy loved her family and cherished her friends. She is survived by her daughter: Carolyn Vines of Houston; stepsons: Adam Farnsworth and wife Cherrlyn of Silsbee and Todd Farnsworth of Dickinson, TX; step daughter: Diane Farnsworth Osaba and husband Steven of Portugal; brother: Leonard Smith and wife Christine of Vidor; sisters: Judy Goff and Connie Smith of Rusk; sister-in-law: Janis Smith of Vidor; as well as a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother: Ronnie Smith.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Chapel of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, 221 West 5th Street, Rusk, TX 75785 with a reception to follow at the funeral home.
