FORD, KANSAS - Sandra Lee "Sandi" Stout, age 80, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 9, 2025 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Enid, Oklahoma.
Sandi was born at Carlisle Barracks in Carlisle, Pennsylvania on August 4,1944 to Charles "Chic" and Ida "Louise" Stout. She was raised in Ford, Kansas. She graduated valedictorian from Ford High School in 1961 and cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas in 1965. She went on to receive her Master of Arts Degree in 1982 from the University of Northern Colorado.
Sandi lived most of her adult life in Lakewood, Colorado until a health scare in 2013 led her to Minneola, Kansas to be closer to family.
Although Sandi never had any children of her own, she impacted the lives of many. She was an elementary school teacher for 29 years, most of those in Jefferson County, Colorado. Highlights of her career included teaching for 3 years at Fuchu Air Base in Japan and 2 years in Goeppingen, Germany.
Sandi enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to go to several places. Some of those include: London, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Russia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Prague, and the Philippines.
After retirement, Sandi enjoyed playing Bridge and volunteering at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. She led tours through Prehistoric Journey and the Egyptian exhibits. Sandi was a die-hard Denver sports fan but especially loved the Broncos and the Nuggets. Sandi enjoyed spending time scrapbooking for all of her great nieces and nephews through many of life's journeys beginning at birth.
In September 2023, Sandi relocated to assisted living in Enid, Oklahoma to be closer to her niece, nephew, and great nieces and nephews.
In the spring of 2024, Sandi was diagnosed with cancer. She courageously fought it with chemo and radiation. Follow up after treatment revealed a new type of cancer. After thoughtful consideration, Sandi chose to not pursue any additional treatment and opted for hospice care.
Sandi is survived by her sister Sheryl Thompson and husband Andy of Ford, Kansas; nephew Troy Bumgardner and wife DeEtta of Skiatook, Oklahoma, great nieces Annabelle, Naomi, and Bridgette, and great nephew Colby; niece Tara Haworth of Enid, Oklahoma and great nephew Chase and great niece Taylor; nephew Erik Thompson of Minneola, Kansas and great niece Gabbie and great great nephews James and John. She was preceded in death by her parents and many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful and loving care of the staff at Bookdale and also to Hospice Circle of Love.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Ford Community Church, Ford, with Pastor Allen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Ford Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 pm to service time at the church.
The family suggests memorials to the Ford Community church in care of Minnis Mortuary, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
