Saphronie Oneal Self, 94, wife of James Wesley Self, died on July 11, 2025.
Born in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of the late Fred Joseph Gunter and Maggie Bell Satcher Gunter. Mrs. Self worked for many years as a seamstress and was a longtime member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking for her family, especially sweets, and planting and taking care of her flowers.
Mrs. Self was preceded in death by her sister Jane Moon and brothers, Melvin Gunter, PA Gunter and Eugene Gunter
Survivors include her three sons: David (Debora) Self, Ronnie (Debbie) Self and Wayne Self; siblings: Betty Helen Dattler, Jimmy Gunter, Doug Gunter, Linda Cox and seven grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11AM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Caleb Self, Wesley Self, Paul Moon, Tyler Self, Reid Martin and Scott Hulme.
