Sara Lorraine Redenius, known for her big heart, strong work ethic, and deep love for family, passed away on July 1, 2025, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. She was 66.
Born in Lake City, Iowa, on March 12, 1959, Sara was proud of her small-town roots, graduating in the class of '78. That pride shaped her values-hard work, resilience, and connection. Throughout her life, she held a variety of roles in customer service, food service, and hospital settings, always bringing kindness and care to those she served.
Sara spent most of her adult life in Fort Dodge, where she was a dedicated 4-H volunteer and deeply involved in her daughter Mica's activities. She took great joy in being part of her daughter's life and celebrating her accomplishments.
In later years, Sara found companionship with her partner, Gloria Shawler. Together, they made their home in Marshalltown, where Sara embraced Gloria's family as her own.
Sara's greatest joy was her grandson, Eb Paul. She beamed with pride over every milestone, often smiling and saying, "He's got my nose."
She loved being outdoors, especially sitting near water, basking in the sun, and taking in fresh air. Duluth, Minnesota, was a favorite destination, where she found peace by the lake and enjoyed watching the cargo ships. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sports and dance events, always offering love and support from the sidelines.
Sara was a constant presence on Facebook, where she stayed closely connected to her community. Her posts were honest and heartfelt-often transparent, always authentic. Whether sharing daily reflections, checking in on others, or simply being herself, she used her online presence to offer comfort, humor, and warmth.
Sara is survived by her partner, Gloria Shawler; her daughter, Mica Paul (Ryan), and grandson Eb Paul; brother Gary Redenius (Luanne); uncle David Ewoldt and Randy Smith; two nieces, a nephew, and many adored cousins; her bonus children, Sarah Perry and Stan Shawler (Ashley); and grandchildren Jordan, Kaleb, Alexis, Letitia Perry and Emma, Sydney, and Ivy Shawler. The Claiborne family, dear friends, and many others whose lives she touched also carry her memory forward.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald "Dusty" and Shirley Redenius; her stillborn sister Angela Redenius; her grandparents; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; her in-laws Verlan and Iva Tinkle; and her favorite dog, Chewy.
Sara will be remembered for the way she loved and cared about others with her whole heart and without hesitation.
PS: If you're lucky enough to still have your mom, don't forget to call her.
Memorials may be addressed to Mica Paul.
The Memorial Service is 10:00 am Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Lake City Union Church with a private family burial to follow. The Visitation will be 3:00 - 5:00 pm Sunday at the Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City, IA.

Mica, I especially remember the 60th birthday party you had for your mom at your house. She was so pleased and happy about that. I am sad for you and your family -- your mom knew many people and did a good job of reaching out -- that will be missed. My sympathy to you, Gary & all the rest of your family.
