Saundra Kay (Hoverman) Batcke, age 82 of Midland MI died at StoryPoint Midland on Wednesday, July 23 2025 with her husband and son at her bedside.

Saundra was born on October 26, 1942 at her home in Mapleton MI, daughter of Edward Lee and Bernice Helen (Sweitzer) Hoverman. The family moved to a farm in Auburn MI shortly after she was born. She graduated from T. L. Handy High School in 1960. She worked at Glovers and Community Drug Stores and J.C. Penney. On February 8, 1964, she married Charles Duane (Charlie/Chuck) Batcke at St. Brigid Church in Midland. She gave birth to Charles Edward (Chuck) on October 17, 1968 and the late Dr. Scott David on October 19, 1971.

She transferred with her husband and children to Sarnia Ontario Canada from 1973-77 and then to Sao Paulo Brazil from 1977-79. When they returned to Midland, Saundra picked out the house on Perrine Rd where they were to live in for the next 45 years.

They enjoyed RVing, buying their first travel trailer in 1975 and traveling many of the states. Between RVing and Charlie's job, she visited 47 states, five Canadian Provinces, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Paraguay and Peru. When Charlie worked on a project in the Netherlands, she joined him several times and also visited Belgium, France, England and Germany. They also wintered in Lakeland and Polk City for 17 years.

Saundra enjoyed bowling for many years where she was a member of the 600 club and was on the Senior Top 10 bowlers for several years. Some years she bowled in five leagues and subbed in two others. She also enjoyed women's singles and doubles tennis for several years.

Besides her husband and one son, Chuck (ex-wife Kim), she is survived by her three granddaughters, Allie Snoddy of Midland MI, Madysin Batcke Jones and husband Marcus Jones of Harrodsburg, KY, Hayli Coty of Nicholasville KY, five great grandchildren (Madalynn and Houston Lamb, and Claire, Clay and Camryn Whitmer), sisters and brother – Lillian (Ralph) Wiggins, Shirley Miner all of Midland, Linda (Deroy) Mahagan of Everett WA and Wilbert Hoverman of Auburn MI, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and son, Dr. Scott Batcke, brothers Rodney Hoverman, Daniel (Delores) Hoverman, brother-in-law Virgil Miner and sister-in-law, Connie Hoverman.

She was a Catholic convert and for the past 25 years was a member of Our Lady of Grace Parish (St. Agnes Church) in Sanford.

Funeral Liturgy celebrating her life will be at Our Lady of Grace Parish (St. Agnes Church) in Sanford on Tuesday July 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dan Fox OFM, Cap officiating. Inurnment will be at New Calvary Cemetery, right below her son, Scott at a later date. Family will receive guests at the Wilson MILLER Funeral Home on Monday from 4 until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A vigil service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday at funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at Independent Village and StoryPoint and CorsoCare Home Health and Hospice for their care in her final weeks.
