Scot Cecil Lovdahl, 63, of Petersburg, passed away at his home on Monday, June 23, 2025. He was born on June 19, 1962, at Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio, to Cecil and Kay (Irey) Lovdahl.
He is survived by his parents, of Monmouth, Illinois; his three children, Aaron (Audrey) Lovdahl of Bettendorf, Iowa, Alex (Sammi) Lovdahl, and Allison Lovdahl, both of Springfield, Illinois; and his former wife and the mother of his children, Mary Sue Gillen of Petersburg, Illinois. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to two grandchildren, George Lovdahl and Eleanor Lovdahl.
Also surviving are his brothers, Mark (Kim) Lovdahl of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Curt (Wendy) Lovdahl of Monmouth, Illinois; his longtime companion, Shesna Huff of Petersburg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Scot graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agriculture, but his passion for technology and problem-solving led him to a long and successful career as a Systems Engineer at Norton/LifeLock. For close to two decades, he was repeatedly recognized with performance and innovation awards, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and colleagues.
Outside of work, Scot was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid golfer and drummer, and he had a knack for woodworking. His handcrafted keepsakes, made with care for family and friends, are cherished reminders of his thoughtfulness and creativity. He loved tackling large home projects and was the first to roll up his sleeves to help his kids with theirs, always teaching by doing.
Above all else, Scot loved his family deeply. His grandchildren were the joy of his life, and his presence, wisdom, and quiet strength will live on through the lessons he passed down and the lives he helped shape.
Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, in Petersburg, on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Petersburg. Rev. Ross Gallion will officiate.
