Scotty spent part of his early school years in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Woodward High School in 1974. In 1988, Scotty decided to go back to college at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma where he finished a BS degree in Chemistry in 1992. His last year at ECU, Scotty had moved his family to Norman, Oklahoma. In October of 1993, Scotty got a job as a chemist in a lab where they tested waste water samples and made a solution which covered the stacked computer chips on a disc for Texas Instruments and Raytheon. In January of 1994, Scotty moved his family to Plano, Texas where they lived until 2005. While his sons were in elementary and middle schools, Scotty coached both sons' baseball and basketball teams. In 2005, Scotty and Rita parted their ways. Scotty and Matt went to Cleburne, Texas to work in the oilfield. After Cleburne, they lived in various places depending on where work took them throughout Oklahoma and Texas then coming full circle back to Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
