It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sebastian Robert Ortiz, known as Robert to his friends and family, a man whose warmth, humor and generosity touched every life he encountered. He left this world peacefully on June 17, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him most. Born in O'Donnell, Texas, on February 25, 1945, he embarked on an 80-year journey filled with laughter, love, and the kind of stories you'd only believe if you were there - and even then, you'd need a minute.
Robert was the kind of person who made life lighter just by being in the room. With a quick wit, a gentle smile, and a laugh that could fill a room, he brought joy to every moment. Whether he was telling a joke, lending a helping hand, or simply sitting and listening, he had a way of always making others feel seen, heard and loved.
He lived with an open heart and a deep sense of integrity. He believed in doing the right thing even when no one was watching. He gave without expecting anything in return and found happiness in the happiness of others. He was the friend everyone could count on, the neighbor who always showed up, and the family member who made every gathering brighter.
Above all, Robert loved deeply. He loved his family, his friends, and even strangers who soon became friends. His legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and love – a legacy we will carry with us always.
Robert met and married Sylvia Garica Ortiz on September 15, 1967. She was the love of his life and a devoted wife for almost 58 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Garcia Ortiz, his children Deloris (Loly) Ortiz Garza and husband Enrique (Kike) Garza, Christi Ortiz and husband Evaristo (Bubba) Fontanilla, Robert Joe Ortiz and Jennifer Courtney. The family tree branched out to include grandchildren Cody Ryan Ortiz, Anysia Osciera Ruiz, and Kadence Cole Ortiz, who were Robert's pride and joy, along with great-grandchildren Layla Rain, Sebastian Ryder, Olivia Rose, and Ava Raelyn Ortiz, who sweetened his later years.
Robert's siblings, Annie Mesa, Gloria Ortiz, and Bama Ortiz are continuing the family's story and traditions of their late siblings Esperanza, Samuel, John, and Daniel Ortiz, and their parents, Gilbert and Tomasa Ortiz.
Robert lived his faith through actions. He was a simple man with simple pleasures: he found joy in simple things – casting a line on a quiet morning, firing up the grill for a backyard barbeque, fixing just about anything with his hands, and filling the air with his favorite Tejano music.
Those little moments, shared with family and friends, were where his heart truly lived.
His spirit will be remembered with the love he so freely gave. Rest in peace Sebastian Robert Ortiz. We love you and will miss you, Viejio.
