BAXTER CHAPEL - Seth Cody Shanks, a spirited young soul, left this world too soon on Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home in Baxter, TN, at the tender age of 12. Born on July 5, 2012, in Cookeville, TN, Seth embodied an adventurous spirit that drew everyone to him. His infectious laughter and boundless energy seemed to brighten every room he entered, leaving a lasting impression on family, friends, and classmates alike.
Seth was a beloved student at Upperman Middle School in Baxter, just completing 6th grade, where he excelled in his studies. Seth formerly played baseball in the Putnam County Youth Baseball League, showcasing his talent and love for the game. He thrived in the great outdoors, finding joy in hunting, fishing, and exploring nature’s beauty. His interests also included video games, particularly enjoying his time on the XBOX and building magnificent worlds in Minecraft. Each activity brought him happiness and allowed him to share precious moments with friends and family.
He leaves behind a loving family who cherished him deeply. His father, Ethan Cody Shanks of Baxter, and mother, Ashton Smith of Crossville, TN, Cody will be dearly missed by his siblings, Kennedy Shanks, Taylyn, Annakin, Riley, and Callie Rednour, all of Crossville, whose lives were enriched by his playful nature.
Seth's grandparents, Gary and Linda Shanks of Baxter and Jay and Erica Buccina, along with his great-grandmother Margie Shanks of Baxter, held a special place in his heart, guiding him with wisdom and love. Further extending his family ties, are his uncles Steven Shanks (Misty Buck), Kevin (Jennifer) Shanks, as well as great-uncles and aunts Larry (Kelly) Shanks and Pat (Ken) Klippen. The echoes of cousin playtimes will forever keep his memory alive alongside Jax, Gunnar, Waverly, Katelyn, Oliver, and Cody Shanks, and Kate and Kyle Wilson.
Preceding Seth in death were his great-grandparents, Roy Shanks, John and Martha Dunbar, and great-uncles Johnny Dunbar and Chuck Shanks.
In honoring the cherished memories of Seth, a funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home, 532 4th Ave. South, Baxter, TN 38544. Bro. Herb Leftwich will officiate. Interment will follow at Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County, TN. Serving as pallbearers: Ethan Shanks, Steven Shanks, Kevin Shanks, David Grogan, James Buccina, and Dakota Tallent.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 20th from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM and Saturday after 11 AM at the funeral home.
Seth's vibrant spirit will always be remembered for its joy, adventure, and the love he shared during his brief time with us. His laughter will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who loved him, as we celebrate a life that, though short, was filled with the utmost love and impact.
In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to the funeral home toward funeral expenses.
