Sharon (Woodworth) Gardner, 83, of East Peoria, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She went home with her family by her side. Born in Quincy, IL, on June 10, 1941, to the late Frank Woodworth and Vera Wieseman. Sharon was a beacon of light to all who knew her, embodying the virtues of kindness, strength, and unwavering love.
On September 9, 1961, Sharon married the love of her life, Rex Gardner, of
Chillicothe, IL. Together, they built a life founded on mutual respect and devotion-a bond that stood the test of time and became an inspiration to those around them. Sharon's legacy is lovingly carried on by her husband, Rex, who resides in East Peoria; her sons, Rich (Kareen) Gardner and Jeffrey (Doreen) Gardner of Germantown Hills, IL; Gregory (Melissa) Gardner of East Peoria, IL; her eight adoring grandchildren; four great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy; her sister, Patricia Hubbard of Hopkinsville, KY; and her nephews, Frank and Mike Miller of CA.
Sharon was a proud graduate of Unity High School in Mendon, IL, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed a love for learning that she would later instill in her own children. After dedicating many years as a housewife, focusing on raising her sons and supporting her husband, Sharon joined the workforce at Caterpillar, Inc. in Morton, IL, where she eventually retired. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on her colleagues.
Her involvement in her children's education was evident through her active participation and leadership as President of the PTA. Sharon's guidance and advocacy in the educational community were recognized by many, and her efforts contributed to the betterment of the school environment for countless students. Sharon was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Peoria, IL.
Sharon's passions were rooted in the simple pleasures of life. She found solace and joy in her home, which she turned into a sanctuary for her family. An excellent cook, Sharon's meals were more than just nourishment; they were expressions of her love. Her garden was a testament to her patience and care, blooming with life and color that mirrored her own vibrant spirit. Decorating her home for every season and occasion, she created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will be deeply missed.
Above all, Sharon provided a safe haven for her husband and children. Her unwavering commitment to her family's well-being was the cornerstone of her life. The memories created within the walls of her beloved home will continue to comfort and inspire her family for generations to come.
Sharon's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, dedication, and grace. As we say farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the immeasurable impact she had on the lives of those she touched. Her radiant smile, her gentle guidance, and her unconditional love will forever be cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Sharon Dianna Gardner was a treasure to all who knew her, and while she may have left this world, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the legacy she leaves behind.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 1pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe with visitation held from 11am to 1pm. Burial will follow the services at Chillicothe City Cemetery.
