Shelby Mae "Dee" Starrett 70 of White Sulphur Springs passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025.
Shelby was born March 13, 1955 in Greenbrier County to the late Junior Lee McCartney and Marguerite Evelyn Allen Gregory. She was raised by her grandmother, Ida Mae Allen in White Sulphur Springs.
She attended and graduated from Greenbrier East High School in 1975. Worked in the laundry at The Greenbrier Hotel and retired in 2020 after 42 years of service.
Shelby was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and dedicated her life to her family. Providing a safe, happy and loving home to her family, they were her life's work. She loved being a grandmother; she enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, holiday baking and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed being outside and watching and feeding birds.
Shelby is preceded in death by her husband, Ayrgel Ray Starrett, her parents, grandmother, sister Janet Rhodes and brother Joseph Gregory, who she greatly missed.
She is survived by her children; Jennifer Rose Starrett (Chuck) of Beckley and son James Ray Starrett of White Sulphur Springs; grandchildren; Dorian Blaine Bailey, Delany James Starrett and Tatum Rose Starrett; her twin brother Sherman "Bo" McCartney and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be August 1, 2025 from 6pm – 8pm at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in White Sulphur Springs.
Per her request her ashes will be spread at the Hillcrest Cemetery where her family members are laid to rest.
