Sherlyn Jean (Stull) Tatkenhorst, 77, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025 at her home.
Jean was born April 10, 1948, in Hays, Kansas. She is the daughter of Max and Alberta (Jennings) Stull. She grew up in the Codell and Natoma area. Her parents divorced and Max remarried to Goldie Stull.
She graduated from Natoma High School in the Class of 66.
Jean was united in marriage to Keith Tatkenhorst on July 27, 1968, in Natoma. They made their home in Hays, Kansas for a short time before moving to the farm north of Natoma. Then in 2012 they moved in to Natoma. This union was blessed with three children: Jenjer, Jason and Janae.
Jean drove the school bus for Natoma School District #399 for many years. She had her own route and drove to most activities of the school. In her spare time, she was a devoted farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Natoma. She was active in the church participating in Sunday school, vacation bible school and being a part of Lutherans For Life. When she was young, she was active in 4-H and FHA. She enjoyed gardening, doing crafts, quilting and raising her sheep. It was her love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren that put a sparkle in her eye.
Jean’s surviving family include her husband of 56 years, Keith of the home; daughters, Jenjer Murphy (Brad) of Waldo, Kansas and Janae Talbott (Aaron) of Russell, Kansas; son, Jason Tatkenhorst (Stacy) of Basehor, Kansas; three brothers, Wane Stull (Cheryl) of Solomon, Kansas, Lary Stull (Peggy) of Hays, Kansas and Keith Stull (Rhonda) of Spearville, Kansas; six grandchildren, Jodi, Phillip, Kade, Kurtis, Austin and Kamden; and four great grandchildren, Waylon, Jemma, Wryatt and Wiley.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; and brother Joel Stull.
A celebration of Jean’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 9:00 AM to service time. No visitation being conducted. Burial will follow at the Green Mound Cemetery near Palco, Kansas. Memorial may be given to the Sherlyn Jean Tatkenhorst Memorial Fund and sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary * 610 N. Maple Street, Russell, Kansas, 67665. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell and Natoma are in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
