Sherrill Rich Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 24, 2024.
Sherrill A. Rich, 76, of Baltimore, MD, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Maryland Masonic Homes in Cockeysville, MD. Born on August 6, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Jim Spencer and Jeanette Spencer.
Sherrill graduated from Frederick Douglass High School and attended Coppin State University. She went on to work at the William S. Baer School in Baltimore, MD as a Paraeducator before retiring in 2014.
Sherrill was passionate about advocating for people with disabilities her entire life; she was a very influential part of the team of people who tirelessly worked to get rights and accommodations for that community of individuals. Her work protesting, being apart of sit-ins and lobbying local government, helped to make handicap access ramps for busses and building entrance ways a standard accommodation everywhere.
Sherrill loved sports; recalling times where she would go to the Baltimore Colts games with her father and enjoying the atmosphere of the game. You could find her in front of the television on Saturdays enjoying college football or the Ravens game on Sundays. In her spare time, she also enjoyed writing children's stories and poems.
Sherrill, a strong believer in Christ, was a former member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she sang on the choir and served as a deaconess for several years, before joining the Miracle Baptist Church. Her favorite scripture that she loved to encourage her children and grandchildren with, was Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
She leaves behind her children: Ivory Rich, Aaron Rich (Lisbeth Rich), Kenneth Rich (Magdalene Rich), Shannon Murphy (Andre Murphy II); her grandchildren: Gianni Rich, Khalil Hider, Leilani Hider, Jordin Murphy, Andre Murphy III, Aiden Murphy, Asher Murphy; her sister: Dr. Wendy Spencer-Suprynowicz (Frank Suprynowicz); her sister-in-law: Dorothy Francis; her closest cousins Pat Pinkett and Edwina Day, along with a host of other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sherrill will always be remembered for her kind, loving and gentle spirit; she was truly a beacon of light to the world!
