Shirley Blake Bulla passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday October 29, 2025. She was born on January 28, 1935 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Shirley was a wonderful daughter and sister, a devoted wife, a loving mother and an adored grandmother.
Shirley had a great life. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ, and we know she is at peace with him now. Shirley loved her Church and enjoyed worshiping and singing in the choir.
Shirley had many hobbies during her lifetime. She was a great artist and loved painting, especially with her friends Ella and Grace. She was also an accomplished quilter, making many loving memories for her boys and grandchildren. Shirley was always involved with crafts of some type. She enjoyed photography. She would always be the one taking photos, particularly when her boys were growing up. She liked to bowl and was very good.
In her younger years Shirley worked for AT&T in Greensboro, NC. Once she and her family moved to Florida, she was an integral part in the creation of KMS Communications. She helped build the company into what it is today.
There were many things Shirley liked to do but there were some that she simply Loved.
She loved her dogs! She had many over her lifetime.
She loved fried shrimp. We always knew what Mom was going to order when we went out to eat. Oh, and loved her caffeine-free diet Pepsi and sweet tea!
She loved camping, but not in the “roughing it” way. She and Bill had many years of wonderful trips in their RV campers traveling from Alaska to Mexico and everyway in between.
She loved collecting things. Especially owls, seashells, sharks’ teeth, pelicans and beanie babies.
She loved the holidays, especially Christmas. Shirley was the core of the Bulla family Christmas traditions and the glue of the family.
But most of all we believe her favorite hobby was shopping. She didn’t necessarily buy anything. She just loved to shop!
Her laugh and her smile were contagious. Whether it was Shirley the wife or friend, Mom or
Maw Maw, she was so sweet and caring. You could talk to her anytime and she would always take the time to listen. You could tell her anything and she always had good advice.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bill, her 3 sons Kevin Bulla and wife Lynee’, Mike Bulla and wife Julie and Steve Bulla. Her loving grandchildren Avery Bulla, Blake Bulla, Caitlin Bulla, Nicole Bulla, Sidney Bulla and Will Bulla, and her sister Jerrine Mathis.
Shirley will be greatly missed. We love you, Shirley, Mom, Maw Maw!
