Shirley Markle Obituary

Shirley Markle of Munith, age 89, passed away under the loving care of her family and Harmony Cares Hospice on Monday, December 4, 2023. Shirley was born on February 2, 1934, in Lexington, KY.
She is survived by her daughter Diana (Perry) Rickman and son Steven (Colleen) Holbrook; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Casey) Barrier, Chris (Shelly) Mulberry, Travis Stevens, Christopher Rickman, Colton Rickman, Erik Rickman, Alisa (Paul) Meade, and Misty Holbrook; daughter-in-laws Janice Mulberry and Rhonda Holbrook.
She was preceded in death by her parents Redman Riddell and Martha Elizabeth Skinner; husbands Charles Mulberry, Ray Holbrook, and Lyle Markle; sons John Mulberry and Alan Holbrook.
Shirley was raised on the Elmendorf Farm in Lexington, KY. She married Charles Mulberry and had a son John. She moved to Michigan in 1951, where she took care of her Great Grandparents in Detroit, MI where she met Ray Holbrook and had Diana, Alan and Steve. She moved to Munith, MI. in 1969, and married Lyle Markle, they were together for 42 years till Lyle's passing in 2011. Shirley owned and operated the Markle's Market, the Munith Bakery in Munith and later managed a paper business until retiring in 2012.
At her request cremation has taken place. The memorial service to honor the life of Shirley will take place at the Hampton Funeral Homes in Jackson on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 12 p.m. with Pastor Craig Goodlock officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Pleasant Grove Cemetery immediately following the luncheon.
