In Loving Memory Mark "Skip" Clayton Moore
Castleton-Mark "Skip" Clayton Moore, 74, of Castleton, Vermont, passed away peacefully at home on June 28th, surrounded by the love of his family, after a brief but courageous battle with melanoma.
Born on August 7, 1950, in Rutland, VT, Skip was the son of Clayton and Edith (Burt) Moore. A proud graduate of Fair Haven Union High School (Class of 1968), he went on to earn a degree in agricultural management from Vermont Technical College in 1970.
Skip married Barbara (Beavin) Moore in 1971, and together they made their home in Benson and raised their children. Later, he married Kathleen "Kathy" (Denis) Moore, with whom he shared many years until her passing.
Skip lived life with grit and good humor. He was a passionate farmer and a dedicated trucker, always happiest with his boots on the ground or behind the wheel. His love for the outdoors ran deep - he spent countless days ice fishing, hunting, and tending to his garden. He was a skilled canner and took great pride in preserving what he grew. A Bud Light in hand, a loyal dog by his side, and a story to tell - this was Skip in his element.
Skip served his country with honor as a member of the Army National Guard for six years. He was a man of quiet strength, loyalty, and humility, always there when you needed him.
He leaves behind his beloved dog and constant companion, Pepper, who never left his side. Skip's legacy lives on through his children: Mindy and her husband Morris Simkowitz of Dresden, ME, Kyle Moore and his wife Heather of Castleton, VT, Allison Wood of Fair Haven, VT, and Isaih and his wife Jill Moore of Charlotte, VT. He is also survived by his cherished siblings - sister Sue Kellogg of Orwell, VT; brother Gary and his wife Debbie Moore of Greenwich, NY; and sister Marcia Moore of Ludlow, VT - along with many adoring grandchildren, extended family, and friends who will miss him deeply.
Calling hours will be held at Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven, VT, on Sunday, July 6th from 10 AM to 12 PM. A celebration of Skip's life will follow at the Castleton American Legion - a place where stories, laughter, and love will be shared in his honor.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Skip's memory to Lucky Puppy Great Beginnings Adoption Center (www.theluckypuppy.org), a cause close to his heart.
