Mr. Stephen Ernest Padgett, 55, of Walterboro, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2025, at the Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville.
Born August 1, 1969, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was a son of Patricia Craven Padgett Walker and the late Marion Ernest Padgett. Following his graduation from John C. Calhoun Academy in 1987, he attended The Citadel – The Military College of South Carolina. He was a loader for UPS, having worked at their North Charleston Customer Center. Stephen was a well-known infant swim instructor, having taught countless children in the Lowcountry of South Carolina the skill of life saving swimming techniques. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and will forever be remembered for his love of music, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are: his wife of twenty-three years, Shelby Ulrich Padgett; his parents, Patrica and Donald Walker of Walterboro; two children, Austin Padgett and Brantley Padgett; four siblings, Stacey Padgett of Walterboro, Stephanie King (Jonathan) of Walterboro, Kristina Johnson (Jeremy) of Walterboro, and Mark Lemacks (Nancy) of Bennetts Point; as well as host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Sheri Ulrich of Walterboro; and two brothers-in-law, Justin Ulrich (Becky) and Garrett Ulrich both of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, J.J. and Adeline Carson Craven and Norman and Linnie Dell Padgett.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2025, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family will receive friends until 5 o'clock that evening.
