Steve Brady, 68, of Monrovia, left this world unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. He was born in Martinsville on March 22, 1957, to the late Russel Roy and Arletta Marie (Jones) Brady.
In his youth, Steve developed a love for animals of all kinds. The family owned horses, and he was notorious for bringing home all sorts of wild animals, making his mom cringe every time he emerged from the woods. From racoons to hawks, to several different snakes (and he was bitten by every damn one of them). With music engrained in his soul, Steve joined the Misfits band as a talented guitar player in 5th grade, and they played a performance in the multipurpose room for the student body. A proud graduate with the class of 1975 from Monrovia High School, Steve was a legendary athlete who held many accomplishments in wrestling and football. He earned the West Central Conference Wrestling Champion in 1974-1975, came in 2nd at the IHSAA Sectionals in 1972-1973, and was named the most valuable wrestler as co-captain in 1974-1975. One of the original Demes' Dogs 1st varsity season established in 1973, Steve was the first Mr. Football, playing as center for the team from 1973 to 1975 in the West Central Conference. Most recently he was inducted in the Monrovia Athletic Hall of Fame.
After graduation, Steve enrolled in Taylor University where he continued wrestling for one season. With no job prospects to be found in the small town of Monrovia, Steve, along with two of his brothers and most of the young men from school, secured work for Marshall Harrison and they all packed their bags and headed to Texas. When he returned to Indiana several years later, he opened his own construction business, masterfully remodeling and building beautiful homes.
The ultimate Bulldog, Steve, was a true-blue leader who set the bar high for all those around him. With a take charge attitude, he was as loyal as they came, sometimes to a fault. Forever a fighter he earned respect with dignity, overcoming many obstacles since childhood. Known to be full of himself at times, he had t-shirts made that said "Steve Brady Fan Club" for all his close friends to wear. A slick kind of guy, he was funny and kindhearted. When life threw lemons at him, he turned them into lemonade, battling until the very end. Steve Brady was truly a one-of-a-kind man who will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
Along with his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Brady.
Steve leaves behind his siblings, Reva Jo Lloyd (Tim) of Monrovia, Mike Brady (girlfriend, Rhonda Powers) of Indianapolis, and Jeff Brady of Monrovia; nieces and nephews, Heather Baudendistel (husband, Dennis) of Clayton, Mandy Surber (husband, Chad) of Monrovia, and Dr. Chelsie Brady (boyfriend, Wade) of Trafalgar; great nieces and nephews, Katie Suber of Monrovia, Emily Lagel (Caleb) of Plainfield and Cody Surber of Plainfield; along with a host of lifelong friends.
