Steven Francis Dunnwald was born on July 14, 1960, in Waterloo, Iowa, to James "Jim" and Marcella "Marcie" (Etringer) Dunnwald. A proud Iowan through and through, Steve was shaped by a strong Midwestern work ethic and the values of family, community, and honest labor. He graduated from Columbus High School and went on to earn an engineering technology degree from DeVry Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Steve spent twenty years enjoying life in Arizona before moving to Minneapolis, where he lived and worked for another decade. Eventually, he returned home to Waterloo to be closer to family. He continued his career at John Deere as a product development specialist for ten years. True to his dependable Iowa spirit, Steve was set to retire next week on his 65th birthday-a testament to a lifetime of hard work and dedication.

Steve was a man of lively contradictions-cuddly as a grizzly bear, sometimes a little prickly, yet always endearing and close to our hearts. His sharp wit could light up a room with laughter, and his playful, mischievous spirit kept everyone on their toes. Beneath that feisty humor and colorful banter was a loyal, caring heart. Steve treasured time with family and loved fishing trips and gatherings with the '78 Sportsman's Club, weaving stories and creating memories for a lifetime.

Left to honor his memory are his daughter, Julia Dunnwald; his mother, Marcella Dunnwald; three brothers, Dennis (Martine), Lawrence (Joelle), and William (Denise) Dunnwald; two sisters, Julie (Keith Garde) Dunnwald-Gray and Lisa (Tim Welter) Dunnwald; and nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Dunnwald; two brothers, James Dunnwald Jr. and Michael Dunnwald; and one brother-in-law, Curtis Gray.
