Obituary of Steven Joseph Putz
Steven Joseph Putz, the son of Walter Sylvester and Adela (James) Putz, was born August 27, 1951, in Chariton, Iowa. At an early age, Steve went to live with Donald and Hilda Metz, and was raised in their home. He graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1971.
On December 3, 1972, Steve was united in marriage with Patricia Ann Nielsen in Rosemount, Iowa. Steve worked as a nurse's aide for the Jasper County Care Facility for eighteen years. He then went on to work as a janitor at DMACC in Newton. Steve was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, the Silver Wheels Club and attended Bar None Cowboy Church. He enjoyed old cars, toy trains, and teaching the grandkids the guitar.
Steve died on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was 73 years old. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pat; and his daughter, Angie Ancer.
Those left to honor Steve's memory include his sons, David Putz and Aron Putz; his two grandchildren; his step brothers, Dennis Metz and Delbert Metz and his step sister, Diane Ergenbright.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Pence Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the American Diabetes Association and may be left at the funeral home.

I enjoyed friendship with Steve and Pat for many years at First Lutheran. Steve and I both attended men's breakfast on Wednesday mornings. A very good faithful man.
