Steven Veltrie Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2025.
Passed away on December 26, 2024 after a short illness. Steven was born on September 8, 1951 in Colville Washington to Roy and Lillian Veltrie. He grew up in Colville, graduating from Colville High School in 1969. During high school Steve belonged to the high school shooting team and developed a lifelong love of the shooting sports. In his younger years Steve enjoyed a variety of activities including cross-county skiing, backpacking, white water kayaking, hunting and fishing. After graduation Steve joined the army and served one tour in Vietnam as a small arms repairman. After leaving the army Steve continued his education graduating from Central Washington University and Spokane Community College. During this time Steve met and married his wife of 49 years Claudia Jones. After his education Steve and his wife settled in Spokane in 1986, relocating to Reardan in 2005. Steve worked as a machine assembler for a local manufacturer for 15 years. Due to shoulder issues Steve went back to school to become a Medical Records Technician. He worked at Rockwood MultiCare in the medical records department until he retired in 2018. Steve was an active member of the Fernan Rod and Gun Club and was involved in Cowboy Action Shoots as well as Glock Shoots. He was on the Reardan Memorial Library Board and served as secretary for several years. He was an avid gardener and reader.

Steve is survived by his wife Claudia, sister Virginia Sperber (Ron) Spokane, brother Ken Kamstra (Bertha) Colville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve will be interred at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake WA, on April 28 at 11:15 am. A Celebration of Life will follow at the First Presbyterian Church in Reardan, WA at 1:00 pm. Please RSVP to veltrieclaudia522@gmail.
